Hilleberg, the Tentmaker, is a Swedish family-run company specializing in designing and producing some of the best tents in the world. Their first tent, sold in 1973, was already a world’s first in that it allowed the inner and outer tent to be pitched simultaneously. Hilleberg has never looked back, designing some of the most innovative features we’ve ever seen on tents, focusing on high quality, functionality and ease of use.
It goes without saying that a tent is the most important piece of equipment on an Arctic expedition. It is not only your home for the duration of the trip, serving as a living room, sleeping room, kitchen, chill-out room, disko and occasionally a toilet. What’s more, it’s a shell to protect us from the harsh elements outside, keeping the wind and cold outside. Having spent almost half a year living in a Hilleberg tent, both on the Frozen Five adventure and during shorter trips, the Energicers are happy to continue using the Keron 4 GT tents during their adventure.
These tents are specially modified for our use, having double-poles to increase stability during the Arctic storms. In addition, tent poles are permanently sewn into the tent fabric, allowing rapid pitching of our home. The record for setting up our camp lies at just under two minutes, though there’ll be plenty of opportunities to beat this record soon.
